The sponsoring organization for the beaufort national boatbuilding challenge is the north carolina boat building heritage foundation whose mission is to preserve the long standing traditions of wooden boat construction in carteret county and to promote the highly useful carpentry skills needed in boat construction.. Held simultaneously with the n.c. maritime museum’s wooden boat show, beaufort is flooded with boat enthusiasts and spectators. our 501c (3) organization is the nc boatbuilding heritage foundation with a mission to promote awareness of the boat building heritage of north carolina and to provide scholarships to deserving students who wish to. Jack king (beaufort, nc) is the manager of the atlantic veneer mill outlet, providing structural marine grade lumber and plywood to eastern north carolina’s coastal boat building community. he was a key player in bringing the national boatbuilding challenge to beaufort, nc six years ago and has been the event sponsor every year..
